Flowers can be one of the most important decisions you make for your wedding day. Someone I thought would give some great advice about deciding on your floral arrangements is Sean from Sax Romney Studio Floral. For the past ten years he has been creating some of the most amazing floral arrangements around. I recently sat down with Sean to get some of his expert advice. Pay close attention ladies.
What got you into this avenue?
“I have always been a creative person. I started out in the performing arts and as I got older, it wasn’t as appealing to me anymore. I knew that I had to do something that would still be an outlet for my creativity. I was presented with a unique opportunity by a friend in the avenue of a floral studio.”
Sean took to it right away and soon began displaying his natural talent for creating unique and extravagant floral arrangements. Sax Romney has now become one of the top floral studios around. Sean believes in a “co-creation” when it pertains to flowers and brides.
“It’s the energy they bring in, the energy I get, and flowers are the median, the place we meet. Thats why everything is unique. Everything is styled for each individual bride.”
What sets you apart from other florists in the industry?
“I think it’s inspiration, it’s an intuitive feeling. It’s going into each project with no parameters when you start. That gives me the freedom to do it how it feels good to do it. I never tell a bride ‘you have to have this’ or ‘you have to have that,’ no, we can do whatever you want. To sum it up, the way we do business is different.”
What are some tips you would give to brides when picking out flowers?
“First, call around. Whichever florist you choose, do some investigating. Find out how much certain flowers are. One of the most common things I hear is ‘we have no idea how much flowers cost.’ If you come in with a certain flower in mind and it’s out of season when you are getting married, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Flowers out of season might cost upwards of $15 to $20 per flower! So if you can come in with some knowledge, you can be honest about where your budget is. A good florist is going to have options and other choices that will make it work. Don’t think you have to do all the research but get some information so you are educated when you come in. And remember not to go off internet pricing. Flowers that are in season in LA or Miami are not going to be in season in Utah. If you are aware how much the flower costs, in the season you are getting married, then you can avoid that sticker shock when you walk in the door.
Second, keep an open mind when it comes to colors. It’s great to give your florist a direction to go as far as color. We want to see what you are seeing, and we want it to be that co-creation. But, keep in mind that as you are selecting the specific colors you want to use, God is in charge of flower production. We still want to match the colors you choose, just be open to there being a range of hues within your specific colors. There is not a right way and a wrong way, but there is an informed and honest way.”
So ladies, there is some great advice to keep in mind when you are thinking about one of the most important elements of your wedding day, your flowers. And if you haven’t chosen your florist yet, I definitely recommend giving Sax Romney a call. With one of the most creative minds in the industry, Sean will help you create arrangements that will be perfect for your day. And remember, in his own words, “I feel honored that, out of all the great florists available, each bride I work with chose me to create a part of their once in a lifetime experience.”
