So your getting married. Now what? Let the planning begin! Don’t know where to start? If that is how you feel then you should definitely read this. With it’s beautiful grounds and unique european atmosphere, La Caille is one of the most sought after wedding venues around. Mary and Rachel, La Caille’s wedding planners, have spent years planning some of the most beautiful weddings the state has seen. I had the chance to visit with the two of them to find out some must knows before you begin planning your wedding.
We know La Caille for being a great restaurant, but what makes it such a great location for weddings?
Mary: “La Caille has been doing weddings since 1978. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere and the grounds are unmatched.”
Rachel: “In 2000 the pavilion was built to allow for very large scale weddings. It also creates a great resource for winter weddings.”
What size of events can La Caille accommodate?
Rachel: “We have had weddings as intimate as 20 and as large as 1200. And we could do even larger than that if someone wanted.”
What is your favorite time of year for La Caille weddings?
Rachel: “My favorite time is any where in August or September.”
Mary: “Mine is the last weekend in May or any time in September. The last weekend in May is traditionally beautiful. It’s the first time of the year you can really go outside, and the gardens are very green and lush. And in September you get the combination of the fall colors and all of the flowers on the grounds still in bloom.”
What trends have you noticed recently?
Mary: “Earlier last year it was candy buffets. You still see quite a few of them. It seems paper lanterns are starting to get very popular lately.”
You both have a lot of experience with weddings. What tips would you give to brides as they begin their planning?
Rachel: “My number one is find somebody to be in control of your wedding day. If you have the resources hire a wedding planner. If you can’t afford a wedding planner have your best friend or mom or cousin take charge. One of the most common things I hear is ‘oh my wedding day went by so fast.’ If you are too worried about the details you are going to feel like you missed your own wedding. Organize a schedule and then let someone else be in charge of it.”
Mary: “Know your budget. Your dream wedding site usually can match your budget if you are flexible with dates and numbers of people. To help stay within your budget, decide what is most important to you in order of priority. I had someone come to me who was stretching their budget and ask, ‘I am having two hundred and fifty people come to my wedding do I need a cake for two hundred and fifty people?’ I told her absolutely not. Half her guests will be gone by the time she cuts her cake anyway. Know your budget and see what areas you can save money in.”
Rachel: “Don’t get these set ideas in your head of what is going to make your day perfect. Your day will be perfect if you want it to be. I have literally had weddings that were rained out, the head table caught on fire and one where my whole staff got poisoned by some plants. But the day was still perfect for the bride and groom because they let it be perfect. Things wont always go as planned and you will run behind, but it’s okay.”
Mary: “Try and think of something unique to incorporate into your wedding that makes it personal for you. I had a couple from China get married here and they had a Chinese Dragon. There was a wedding I did where the groom was in a band, so they played a few songs. Anything that is different from someone else’s wedding that will personalize it for you.”
Some great advice from expert planners. My advice would be to keep it in mind when you are planning your big day. The venue is the foundation of your wedding, so make sure to choose wisely. And if you are not sure where the grand event will happen, I would suggest heading over to La Caille. You will fall in love from the moment you drive down the tree lined cobble stone drive.
